Listening to: Deerhoof - The Runners Four
Yesterday evening I drove R up to Ukiah to pick up a car given to him by a friend. It's a Vanagon which runs on diesel and/or used vegetable oil (it has a tank for each, needs to be warmed up on the diesel before switching to the vegi-oil tank). R took us to Thai food and we headed home. The noisy, boxy thing can only go up to 45 MPH but it's cool that it can drive around on restaurant waste.
I admire my friends who are reducing their dependence on oil. The guy who gave him the car rides his bike to work. D takes the bus to the city where he walks or takes BART. P recently bought a scooter, it can't go on the freeway and has similar MPH limits but gets something like 80 MPG.
The party Friday night was pretty fun. It may have been more fun if I was taking advantage of the free drinks. The food, just hors deurves, were not that great. I think the best part was how many people knew my name from seeing my photos on the website. When I first got there D was still at work so I was nervous since I didn't know anyone. Immediately four people came up asking if I was Ari.
The little club quickly became packed. I think there were 500 people on the guest list and most of them showed up. It was nearly impossible to get from one side of the little room to the other. It was fun, but yelling in people's faces isn't my preferred way to have a conversation.
D wanted to come home instead of staying there for the night. So we did and missed Deerhoof Saturday night. I was fine with that. I've already far overspent my concert budget for the month with the Download Fest and I've got a ticket to Pretty Girls Make Graves next week.
I haven't been sleeping well. I keep waking up at 3AM and not being able to get back to sleep. I feel weird and terrible but good and happy at the same time. It's very strange.
